Go For The Glory

Posted by John Keatley / Filed under BTS, Videos

Here is a little something we cooked up just for fun.  I find that is often the best reason to create.  Just for fun.  Directing has gradually become a huge part of my creative process in addition to photography.  When I was in high school, I bought my first video camera.  I took it everywhere with me.  Video was actually a passion of mine well before photography.  Somehow, along the way as my photography career took off, video was something I lost sight of.  Thankfully directing has come back to me in the last couple of years.  In the past, I would go through my journal of ideas and think, “How do I want to make this a photograph?”  Now, as I am thinking about a possible project, I am able to ask myself, “What is best for this idea?  A photograph, a video?”  Or maybe something else completely.  Whatever it is, as long as I am creating, I am happy.  Below is a still I also shot on set.  I just couldn’t help myself.

A very big shout out and thank you to our amazing crew for making this video come to life.  I can’t thank you enough!

ARROWS by Fences featuring Macklemore

Posted by John Keatley / Filed under Celebrity, News, Videos

“Arrows” by Fences featuring Macklemore and produced by Ryan Lewis.  Directed by Jason Koenig and John Keatley.  It’s hard really to put into words what I am feeling right now.  We literally just finished working on this video and I haven’t had time to clear my head or process what has just happened.  It has been 2 solid months of hard work for so many talented people, and I am incredibly proud of what we all created.  First and foremost I want to thank Fences, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, my co-director Jason Koenig, and my wife Nichelle and our kids.

It goes without saying, but this has been an amazing opportunity that I am very grateful for.  I also made some wonderful new friends along the way.  It is worth mentioning that the sets for Arrows were all built in Seattle.  Pre-Production, casting, filming, and all post production was done in Seattle.  Seattle pride!  I hope you enjoy the “Arrows” music video as much as I enjoyed working on it. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for lots of behind the scenes pictures and videos.

I have directed a few small film projects in the past few years, but what a project to get thrown into the ring on.  I wouldn’t have had it any other way.  This is just the beginning.  John Keatley – Director / Photographer.  I like the sound of that.

MiiR Commercial Production Stills

Posted by John Keatley / Filed under BTS

Just wrapped up filming my first commercial, shot for MiiR, with my co-director Eric Becker of We Are Shouting.  It was a really fun shoot and the footage is looking great.  We are hoping to have everything wrapped up in the next week.  For now, here are some of the production stills by Scott Everett.  Thanks Scott!  Behind every great production is a wonderful crew, and the crew on this commercial was no exception.  From left to right in the crew shot (last image) is Caven Keith, DJ, Lauri, Becker, Rodrigo, Nina Carduner, Scott Everett, Keatley, and Sarah Finkelstein.  Not pictured is our hair and makeup artist Annabelle Petry.
